パウロ　キリスト教最大の伝道師

まずイエス・キリストです。イエスは何をした人かというと実はよく分かっていません。記録がないのです。おそらくユダヤ教の改革者だったのでしょう。イエスの教えといわれているのは、ほとんどパウロが伝えたものです。では、パウロがどんな人かといえば、ユダヤ教の熱心な信者の1人で、キリスト教徒を迫害していました。次のような伝説が残されています。

　パウロがウマに乗ってエルサレムからダマスコ（ダマスカス）に行く途中、世界が光って、ウマから落ちて目が見えなくなった。そのときに天から声が聞こえて「パウロや、なぜ私のかわいい弟子をお前はいじめるのか」というイエスの声が聞こえてきた。目が見えないでもがいているうちに、誰かが目をぬぐってくれた。そうしたら目が見えるようになった。そのぬぐってくれた人がキリスト教の信者だった。これが有名な「パウロの回心」です。実は何かのきっかけで人生が変わる人って、ほとんどいないんですよ。こんな劇的な経験に出合えた人はうらやましいですよね。

　イエスはアラム語で説教をやっていました。一方パウロは、イエスの弟がエルサレムで小さい教団を持っていたので、エルサレムには入れなくて転々と地中海の町を順番に布教して歩いていきました。パウロはユダヤ人ですから最初は、都会が大好きなユダヤ人の間で説教していくわけです。使った言語は大都市ですから、コイネー（公用語）と呼ばれているギリシャ語です。ですから教えをユダヤ人以外でも分かるわけです。一番のポイントは、パウロはユダヤ人に限定せず誰にでも教えを説いたことです。これがキリスト教が広がった秘訣ですね。

　同じ頃にインドでも大乗仏教運動が起こりました。どういう経緯かというと、バラモン教は仏教によって都市を追われて農村に逃げていったのですが、農村では誰も字が読めないし、ウパニシャッドのような高遠な理論は分からない。そこで泥で小さい人形を作って、「これはシヴァ神やで、これはヴィシュヌ神やで。シヴァ神万歳といったら救われるで」と徹底的にシンプルにして簡単な教えに変えたのです。こうして生まれたのがヒンドゥー教です。

　そうすると分かりやすい教えなので、農村から都心に出稼ぎに来た人々によってヒンドゥー教がまた都市に入ってきます。分かりやすい方が勝つので、今度は仏教徒が「これはあかん」と焦り始める。そこでお釈迦様の名前を借りたお経を勝手に書き始めるんですね。ヴィシュヌは姿を変えるので有名ですよね。これを借りて観音菩薩（ぼさつ）をつくりました。観音菩薩は、馬頭観音や千手観音などバリエーションがたくさんありますよね。浄土系の「南無阿弥陀仏と言ったら救われるで」というのは、シヴァ神万歳と一緒です。

　こうしてヒンドゥー教に刺激されて、より分かりやすいシンプルな大乗仏教がつくられていきます。しかし般若系や、華厳系、浄土系、法華系などのお経はどれも著者が分かっていません。名もない仏教徒の過激派が、お釈迦様の名前をかたって勝手に文献を書きまくったのです。これが伝統的な仏教徒からは大乗非仏教と言われている理由ですが、そういう形で大乗仏教が広まっていきました。

First is Jesus Christ. I don't know what Jesus did. He has no record. He was probably a Jewish reformer. Most of what is said to be the teaching of Jesus was given by Paul. Paul was like was one of the ardent followers of Judaism, who persecuted Christians. The following legend remains.

While Paul was riding a horse from Jerusalem to Damascus, Around was shining and he fell from the horse and became blind. At that time, I heard a voice from heaven and heard the voice of Jesus, "Why do you bully Paul and my disciple?" Someone wiped his eyes while he was struggling blind. Then I could see. The person who wiped it was a Christian believer. This is the famous "Conversion of Paul". Few people change their lives because of something. I envy those who have come across such a dramatic experience.

Jesus was preaching in Aramaic. Paul, on the other hand, did not enter Jerusalem because Jesus' brother had a small cult in Jerusalem, and he walked through the Mediterranean towns in turn. Paul is a Jew, so at first, he preaches among Jews who love the city. The language he used in is Greek, which is called Koine (official language) because it is a big city. Therefore, even non-Jews can understand his teachings. The main point is that Paul preaches to anyone, not just Jews. This is the secret to the spread of Christianity.

Around the same time, the Mahayana Buddhist movement took place in India. The reason is that Brahmanism was driven away from the city by Buddhism and fled to the rural areas, but no one can read in the rural areas, and They do not understand the high-level theory like the Upanishads. So I made a small doll out of the mud and changed it to complete simple and simple teaching, saying, "This is Lord Shiva, this is God Vishnu. If you say, Lord Shiva, you will be saved." Hinduism was born in this way.

Then, because it is easy-to-understand teaching, Hinduism will come into the city again by people who came to work from rural areas to the city center. The one that is easy to understand wins, so this time the Buddhists begin to rush, saying, "This is not good." So they start writing the sutras that borrowed the name of Shakyamuni（historical Buddha）. Vishnu is famous because it changes its appearance. They borrowed this to make the Guanyin. There are many variations of Guanyin, such as Hayagriva and sahasrabhujayāvalokiteśvara. The Pure Land Buddhism system, "If you say Namu Amida Butsu, you will be saved" is the same as Shiva's hurray.

In this way, inspired by Hinduism, a simpler Mahayana Buddhism that is easier to understand will be created. However, the author does not know any of the sutras such as Prajnaparamita, Huayuan, Pure Land, and Lotus Sutra. An unnamed Buddhist extremist wrote the literature in the name of Buddha. This is the reason why traditional Buddhists call it Mahayana non-Buddhism, and Mahayana Buddhism spread in that way.
