僕は、川の流れに流されていく人生が一番素晴らしいと思っていて、自分から「何か

をやりたい」と強く思ったことは実はほとんどありません。若い頃、渡米したのも、

25歳で画像処理システム販売や半導体販売会社を立ち上げたのも、28歳でアパレル社

長になったのも、54歳でゴム会社に経営陣として入ったのも、57歳でゴムと樹脂の

専門商社を創業したのもさまざまな巡り合わせや偶然によるものです。

　僕がもう少し賢ければ、素晴らしい人生のキャリアが設計できたかもしれません。

でも僕は馬鹿な人間なので、将来を見越したキャリア設計なんてできっこない。です

から、折り合いをつけてきたというよりは、川の流れに流されながら、その中でベス

トを尽くしてきただけです。

　人間や生物の基本原理は、ダーウィンの進化論に要約されていると僕は思っていま

す。すべては「運」と「適応」です。運とは、適当なときに適当な場所にいることで

すが、それは自分ではわからない。でも、そこに居合わせたときに、どのように適応

するか、どんな意欲を持ち、どんな世界にしたいと思って動くかはその人次第です。

ストア派の哲学者たちは、「自然の理法は、大河の流れのように、世界をつくり続け

て過去から未来へと時間をつなげていく。その悠久の流れの中で我々は生まれてきた

のだから、そのように与えられた人生を正面から受け止め、堂々と生きればよい」と

述べています。「与えられた人生を生きる」という視点は、ダーウィンと同じです

ね。

It's all about luck and adaptation. Luck is being in the right place at the right time, but you never know. However, it is up to the individual to decide how to adapt, what kind of motivation they have, and what kind of world they want to create when they are there.

The Stoic philosophers said, ``The law of nature, like the flow of a great river, continues to create the world and connect time from the past to the future. Therefore, we should face the life given to us head-on and live with dignity.” The perspective of "living the life you have been given" is the same as Darwin's.
