東ローマ帝国は、ユスティニアヌスが愚かな戦争を仕掛けたので、がたがたになって、7世紀になると国が滅亡するかどうかの瀬戸際になります。そこで、カルタゴの提督の息子だったヘラクレイオスという人がコンスタンティノープルまで行き、皇帝になって立て直そうとします。その頃、ササン朝では名君が2代続いてホスロー2世という皇帝が生まれていました。

　ホスロー2世は「ローマの方はがたがたになっている、これは、いいチャンスだな」と考えました。サーサーン朝ペルシャはアカイメネス朝の血統を引くといっていたわけですから、昔と同じようにエジプトまで領土にしようと思って、シリア、エジプトを占領します。シリア、エジプトを取られたヘラクレイオスは国内を立て直して628年に奪回します。ということで、ヘラクレイオスとホスローは20～30年もの間、大戦争をしていたわけです。横綱が2人いて、長い間がっぷり四つに組んでいたら両方ともくたくたになりますよね。

　そのとき、アラビア半島で彗星（すいせい）のように出てきたのがムハンマドです。ムハンマドは普通の商人でしたけれど、40歳ぐらいの頃、ヒラー山の洞窟で座禅を組んで瞑想（めいそう）中に、神の言葉を聞きました。それが『クルアーン』（コーラン）です。ムハンマドは布教を始めるのですが、当時のマッカ（メッカ）は多神教の町でした。いじめられて町を追われてしまいます。そこで北の方に行き、マディーナ（メディナ）という町で首長になって、イスラム教を広め、マッカを逆に征服して、アラビア半島でウンマといわれるイスラム共同体を始めます。

　ムハンマドが死んだ後は、戦友のアブー・バクルやウマルという優れたリーダーがサーサ－ン朝ペルシャとローマを倒して、あっという間に大帝国をつくりました。つまり、横綱がくたくたになっているところに元気のいい前頭筆頭みたいな者が現れて、2人の横綱をあっという間に押し出してしまった、というイメージです。

　イスラム教は商人の宗教ですからとても賢い合理的なところがあります。兵隊たちは戦争に勝って気分が高揚していますから、町に入ってきたら「ちょっとよこせ」とおいしそうなご飯を奪ったり、きれいなお姉さんに「デートしよう」と誘いをかけたり、乱暴ろうぜきをはたらくのが目に見えています。だからイスラーム軍は兵隊を町に入れずに、郊外にキャンプをつくって、そこに兵隊を住まわせたのです。それが軍営都市で「ミスル」と呼びます。バスラとかクーファとかフスタート（後のカイロ）、カイラワーンと次々にミスルをつくっていきます。

　日本では「コーランか剣か」とかいう言葉がよく聞かれます。「イスラム教を信じるのかあるいは戦うのか」と解釈されていますが、実はそうではありません。「言うことを聞いたら今までのままやで。税金はちょっとまけてやるで。その代わり言うことを聞かなかったら皆殺しにするで」ということです。要するに税金を払って降伏するか、とことんやるかということです。皆さんはどちらを選びますか。今までより税金がちょっと安くなって今まで通りの生活が保証されるのだったら、わざわざ殴り合いなんか嫌ですよね。それに名前こそ違いますが、イスラム教はキリスト教やユダヤ教と神様は一緒ですから、全然問題ありません。これが、イスラム帝国が急拡大した理由です。

At that time, Muhammad came out like a comet on the Arabian Peninsula. Muhammad was an ordinary merchant, but when he was about 40, he heard the word of God while meditation in a cave on Mt. Hira. That is the "Koran" (Quran). Muhammad began missionary work, but at that time Mecca was a polytheistic town. He is bullied and he is driven out of town. So he goes north and becomes chief in the town of Madina (Medina), spreading Islam, conquering Mecca in reverse, and starting an Islamic community called Ummah on the Arabian Peninsula.

After Muhammad's death, excellent leaders such as his comrades Abu Bakr and Umar defeated Persia and Rome in the Sassan dynasty and quickly created a great empire. In other words, the image is that a cheerful front-runner appeared in the place where the yokozuna was exhausted, and the two Yokozuna(Khosrow II VS Heraclius) were pushed out by Ummah in a blink of an eye.

Islam is a religion of merchants, so it is very clever and rational. The soldiers have won the war and are uplifting, You can imagine when they come into town, take away some delicious food, invite your beautiful sister to "date", and go wild.

That is why the Islamic army did not put troops in the town, but set up camps in the suburbs and let them live there. That is what Islam calls "Misle" in a military city. Islam will make misle one after another with Basra, Kufa, Fustat (later Cairo), Kairouan.

In Japan, the word "Koran or sword" is often heard. It is interpreted as "Do you believe in Islam or fight?", But that is not the case. "If you hear what I say, leave it as it is. I'll give you a little tax. Instead, if you don't hear what I say, kill everyone." In short, it's about paying taxes and surrendering or fighting. Which do you choose? If taxes are a little cheaper than before and you can guarantee your life, as usual, you don't want to bother to hit each other.
