『56』30年戦争の勃発

ハプスブルグ家ではフェルディナント2世がボヘミア王になります。ハプスブルグ家は名門ですが、客観的に見ると賢い君主が生まれない不思議な家系です。ボヘミアは、14世紀末から15世紀初頭に活躍した宗教改革者のフス以来、新教徒の根城です。フェルディナント2世はローマ教会を何よりも大事にしていましたから「新教はあかんで」と言い出したので、当然戦争になります。これが発端となり「30年戦争」（1618～48年）が始まります。最初はボヘミアとドイツの新教国プファルツとの戦争で、フェルディナント2世の皇帝軍が勝ちます。

　当時、ルイ13世の信任を得てフランスの政権を握っていたのが『三銃士』で出てくるリシュリュー枢機卿です。リシュリューは冷徹な政治家です。本来、フランスはローマ教会に従っているのでハプスブルク家を支援しなければいけないところですが、国益を考えるとフランスの主敵はハプスブルク家であるとリシュリューは考えていました。フランスは、ハプスブルク家のスペインとドイツにサンドイッチにされているわけですからね。

　そのためスウェーデンがドイツに介入するのなら、これはいいチャンスだと資金を用意したのです。スウェーデンとフランスは皇帝群に圧勝します。ところが、グスタフ・アドルフは頑張りすぎてか、死してしまいます。

　残されたのは6歳のクリスティーナ女王。スウェーデンはがたがたになるかと思ったらオクセンシェルナという名宰相がドイツの新教諸侯と同盟を結で、国内を掌握しびくともしませんでした。それでスウェーデン戦争はあと5年続くことになります。

　1635年、ドイツがだいぶ弱ってきたところで、今度はフランスが戦争を仕掛けます。もちろん冷徹な政治家、リシュリューが主導したのです。第4幕で、これによって30年戦争が大国同士の争いになります。
