『55』17世紀江戸時代と東インド会社のスタート

1602年にネーデルラント（オランダ）が東インド会社をつくります。これは世界初の株式会社で、イングランドも東インド会社をつくったのですが、株式会社になるのはネーデルラントより少し後です。

　この東インド会社は面白い特徴を持っています。それは株式会社であるだけではなく、軍事権と外交権を持っていることです。つまりネーデルラントは初めからモルッカ諸島のコショウをゲットしようと考えていたのです。

　舞台のインドネシア（モルッカ諸島）はものすごく遠い。その当時、東南アジアである国と戦争しようと考えたときに、本国にお伺いを立てていたら相手から戦争を仕掛けられた場合、適切に対応できないので滅んでしまいますよね。だから株式会社でありながら国家と同じような外交権、軍事権を持つ会社をつくったのです。それが、ネーデルラントのすごいところです。イングランドもすぐにまねをしました。

　イングランドではエリザベス女王が亡くなった後、スコットランドのジェイムズ1世が位を継ぎました。これは同君連合です。簡単にいうと、イングランドとスコットランドは別の国ですが、たまたま王が一緒だというものです。100年ほど同君連合をやった後、1707年に2国が統合してグレートブリテン王国になります。この2つの“国”には、このような深い歴史があります。

　東インド会社は結局モルッカ諸島の香料貿易を1605年から約200年間、ほぼ独占することになります。ネーデルラントの東インド会社はインド洋でポルトガルを打ち破って以降、世界で一番もうかる貿易を独占することになるのです。

　ネーデルラントはスペインから独立しようとほぼ100年間戦って、1609年に休戦条約を結び、ここで事実上スペインから独立して自由になります。スペインの覇権はネーデルラントに移りました。だからヨーロッパでは17世紀はネーデルラントの世紀なのです。

　フランスではブルボン朝を開いたアンリ4世が暗殺されて、その子どものルイ13世が9歳で即位しますが、9歳の子どもに政治ができるわけではありません。そこで実母でメディチ家から入った2人目の王妃マリー・ド・メディシスが摂政として7年ほど、フランスの政権を握ります。

　ロシアでは、ポーランドにモスクワを占領された前世紀末からがたがたが続いていました。その中でミハイル・ロマノフが王位に就き、ロマノフ朝が始まります。ミハイル・ロマノフは病弱で精神的にも幼いところがあったので、やり手のお父さんが「息子は言うことを聞くだろう」と亡命先のポーランドから戻って、政治に口を出すようになります。

　ネーデルラントでは、ジーゲン侯ヨハンが陸軍士官学校をつくります。それまでは傭兵（ようへい）が中心でしたが、自分で軍隊を持とうと思ったら軍を統率する幹部が必要です。これが近代的な陸軍の始まりになります。

That is why they created a company that has the same diplomatic and military rights as the nation, even though it is a joint-stock company. That's the great thing about the Netherlands. England also imitated immediately.

In England, after Queen Elizabeth died, Scotland's James I took over. This is a personal union. Simply put, England and Scotland are different countries, but they happen to be the same king. After forming a personal union for about 100 years, the two countries merged into the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. These two countries have such a deep history.

Dutch East India company will eventually monopolize the Maluku Islands spice trade for about 200 years from 1605. The Netherlands Dutch East India will monopolize the world's most lucrative trade since defeating Portugal in the Indian Ocean.

The Netherlands fought for almost 100 years to become independent of Spain, and in 1609 signed an armistice treaty, where it became virtually independent of Spain. Spanish hegemony has moved to the Netherlands. So in Europe, the 17th century is the Netherlandish century.

In France, Henry IV, who opened the Bourbon dynasty, was assassinated, and his child, Louis XIII, took the throne at the age of 9, but the 9-year-old child cannot do politics. There, her mother, Marie de Medici, the second France queen from the Medici family, will take power in France for about seven years as a regent.

In Russia, political instability has continued since the end of the last century when Poland occupied Moscow. Among them, Michael Romanov takes the throne and the Romanov dynasty begins. Michael Romanov was sick and mentally childish, so his dad returns from exile in Poland and starts as a regent, saying, "My son will hear what I say." ..

In the Netherlands, Johan Maurits van Nassau created the Military Academy. Until then, mercenaries were the main focus, but if you want to have a military yourself, you need an executive to lead the military. This is the beginning of the modern military.
